Take a Tour of Capernaum without Leaving Your Chair

In the Gospel readings from this season after the Epiphany, Jesus has made his way from his baptism in the Jordan river to the town of Capernaum. It is in this town that he makes his home for the time of his earthly ministry. He travels far and wide, making trips across the lake and to Jerusalem and even winds up on the shores of the Mediterranean in the towns of Tyre and Sidon, but he always seems to come back to Capernaum between these trips.

Located on the north shore of the Sea of Galilee, Capernaum was an important town in Jesus time. It was located on the Via Maris, a major Roman trade route, and on the border between the more Jewish Galilee and the more pagan Gaulantis. It was on this cross roads that Jesus taught, healed and called people to follow in his ways. The following links (one written post and two videos) will allow you to take a tour of the town of Capernaum. I've tried to present materials that simply allow you to experience the town on it's own terms, and let you walk with Jesus without too much of a particular theological bent. I hope you enjoy them and learn more about the world Jesus inhabited.
